Below are some examples of previous work experience opportunities.

These students were studying the Level 3 Sports Performance and Excellence BTEC Course at The Football College and are now studying the Sports Coaching and Development HND at The Football University.

The HND also provides extensive work experience in both coaching and sports development roles.

PLAYING – For Students that want to continue their playing careers, the opportunities are there at various levels.

COACHING – For Students that wish to coach, opportunities are available at a variety of clubs and levels.

MARKETING/MEDIA/OTHER – There are many other ways to gain work experience at a professional football club or football environment, all of which are available at The Football University.

  • Stephen is studying Sports Coaching at Leeds Beckett University.

  • Alex is studying Sports Exercise and Science at Leeds Beckett University.

  • Lewis, an Ex-student at The Football College has gained employment with the Inclusion Department at Bury FC Community Trust. Lewis helps out with all coaching and administrative duties within the Inclusion Department and is really enjoying being part of the team. Lewis gained coaching experience whilst being on the BTEC Sports Programme at The Football College and this helped him gain employment due to his wide range of knowledge and experience.

  • Rick has gained employment with UK Football Schools! After studying the BTEC Level 3 Sports Performance and Excellence course for two years at The Football College he is now continuing within the sports sector and delivering sport sessions within primary schools.Rick has also utilised the professional coaching he has received whilst at the College by our UEFA coaches to progress his playing career and now represents Ashton United at a Semi Professional level. Before Ashton, Rick played for Radcliffe Borough, for who he won player of the year.

  • Danny now plays for Manchester Futsal Team and has recently had a call up for England Futsal U23’s. Danny has utilised the professional coaching he has received whilst at The Football College by our UEFA coaches to progress his playing career in Futsal.

 

Work Experience Opportunities

 

Andrew Gate (Media Opportunity)

Andrew, one of our Education students was undergoing work experience at Bury Football Club in the Media Department. Andrew assisted the Media team with all media related work and match reports.

Andrew really enjoyed his time with the media department at Bury Football Club and gained a wide range of knowledge, skills and experience securing him a place at University studying Sports Journalism.

Ryan Edwards-Marsh (Coaching Opportunity)

The Football College Student, Ryan Edwards-Marsh was undertaking valuable hands-on work experience at Bury FC Girls and Ladies, working with the Women’s First Team.

From this, Ryan has been appointed as a coaching assistant. The role involves taking warm-ups, drills and sessions with both the First Team and Development Squad and attending games on Sundays where he assists the Head Coach on the sideline.

Ryan said ‘This opportunity is a dream for a coach at such a young age’.

We are thrilled that our students are providing a fantastic service to our local Ladies club!

 

James Edney (Coaching Opportunity)

The Football College Student, James Edney was undertaking valuable hands-on work experience at Bury FC Girls and Ladies, working with the Women’s First Team.

From this, James has been appointed as a coaching assistant. The role involves taking warm-ups, drills and sessions with both the First Team and Development Squad and attending games on Sundays where he assists the Head Coach on the sideline.

James said ‘I’m privileged to be involved with an amazing set-up at such a young age’.

Ryan Booth (Groundskeeping Opportunity)

Ryan Booth, a Football College student undertook work experience at Bury Football Club with the Groundsmen. Ryan assisted Michael and Gareth with all pitch maintenance at Gigg Lane.

He really enjoyed the experience and gained a wide range of knowledge, skills and experience in this sector.

Ryan also assisted the groundsmen with the home game against Scunthorpe were he helped the team with pitch work.

Danny Ashburner (Personal Training Opportunity)

Danny, a previous Education student undertook work experience at Body Influence PT in Bury to help him with one of his units on the course.

Danny really enjoyed his time with Body Influence and gained a wide range of knowledge and skills in relation to personal training.
